Shonna Hemmis (Ferree) is originally from Frostburg, Maryland. She is currently a graduate student at Penn State University, seeking a Master's degree in Community & Economic Development. She graduated from Frostburg State University with a B.S. in Psychology, with an emphasis in cognitive research. Shonna received several honors from the Psychology Department at FSU, including the 2011 Undergraduate of the Year and an award for Best Undergraduate Research. During her time at FSU, she also majored in Spanish, with an emphasis in translation and linguistics. She also played for and captained the women's soccer team at FSU. Following her undergraduate experience, Shonna served with the U.S. Peace Corps from 2011-2013 in Abong-Mbang, Cameroon as a Youth Development Coordinator. Immediately after completing her Peace Corps service, Shonna continued her service experience with the Public & School Partnership's (PSP) AmeriCorps VISTA program at Wilson Elementary in Logan, UT. Shonna then served as PSP's VISTA Leader, and she now serves as the VISTA Program Coordinator for PSP. 
Shonna is an avid sports fan; plays soccer in various men's, women's, and co-ed leagues; loves traveling; is fluent in French, both written and spoken; and has a basic understanding of Spanish, both spoken and written.
